Message from the President - Suzanne Sanders

Welcome to the website of The Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc.

For 80 years we have made the community of Fort Worth a better place and I am honored to serve as the 81st President. I encourage you to learn more about the Junior League of Fort Worth by exploring our Website.

The Junior League of Fort Worth is an organization of 1,750 exceptional, hard working, active, sustaining and provisional members. We are committed to our mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Membership in The Junior League of Fort Worth means being part of a talented, diverse group of women who value the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their community while developing their own leadership potential.

Our membership works to “Frame the Future” every day. 80% of our actives work outside the home and manage work, families and volunteer responsibilities. To each of you I say thank you for your devotion and desire to make a difference. The Junior League of Fort Worth enhances your gifts, talents and skills to make a difference. We are a retail shop that trains women in sales and marketing. We are a gift market that trains women in human resources, event planning and retail management. We are collaborations that train women in communication skills by “yelling and selling” and teaches them the value of working for cleaner water and parks at a community festival. I encourage each of you to take advantage of the many training and volunteer opportunities available to you!

Since our inception in 1929, the Junior League of Fort Worth has been a leading volunteer organization serving the community through volunteer hours and the funding of significant community projects. Just look around the city and see the impact of the Junior League. Just envision life without Mayfest, Leadership Fort Worth, The Parenting Center or The Funding Information Center; just a few of the non-profits we helped create. Over the years we have funded projects at Kinderfrogs, The Museum of Science & History, The Amon Carter Museum, United Community Centers, YWCA, The Tarrant Area Food Bank, SafeHaven, Salvation Army and countless others.

Our fundraising continues to grow and expand. In just three short years the success of the Christmas in Cowtown Holiday Gift Market and other fundraising efforts have allowed us to give more than $500,000 in grants and 80,000 volunteer hours to the community. For every dollar given to the League, we are able to strengthen that gift with the added value of trained volunteers.

The Junior League of Fort Worth is also constantly looking for new and innovative ways to serve the community. This year, for the first time in our history, we will collaborate with five other area Junior Leagues to support a service learning project called SLANT 45 (Service Learning Adventures in North Texas). Our members will volunteer as youth coaches, helping children tackle a variety of community problems in their neighborhoods while inspiring creative thinking, developing problem solving skills, and encouraging civic minded approaches. The project will be led by the Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and will impact approximately 20,000 elementary-age students. It is the largest education initiative ever undertaken by a Super Bowl Host Committee and one of the largest community-wide service projects in U.S. history. The Junior League of Fort Worth is proud to be a part of this history making endeavor.

The Junior League of Fort Worth is also supported by generous donors, corporations, nonprofit organizations, community partners and collaborators who help us make a difference. Thank each of you for your continued support, believing in our mission and our women and making a difference in our community. Together, we can continue to remain a valuable resource in our community!

This year our theme is “Frame the Future.” We want to frame the future of our members, our donors, our placements, our projects and our community. We are looking forward to a rewarding year!

Fondly,
Suzanne Varnell Sanders
President 2010-2011
