Diaper Bank

Founded in 2020, the JLFW Diaper Bank strives to eliminate diaper need and improve the physical, mental, and financial wellbeing for children and adults across Tarrant County. The JLFW Diaper Bank provides diapers at no cost to local nonprofit partners that serve individuals who are impacted by poverty, mobility, or health limitations. Collected through diaper drives, fundraising, and purchasing diapers at wholesale cost, the JLFW Diaper Bank proudly partners with the Tarrant Area Food Bank to store and distribute its inventory monthly.
Since its inception, the JLFW Diaper Bank has provided more than 2 million diapers to nearly 100 nonprofit agencies.
WHAT IS DIAPER NEED?
Diaper need is a public health issue resulting from a lack of sufficient supply of diapers to keep a person clean, dry, and healthy. Diapers are critical to preventing medical conditions like painful rashes or urinary tract infections, creating access to early childhood education, maintaining a person’s dignity and mental wellbeing, and advancing economic mobility. Diapers are not covered by any federal assistance program like WIC or SNAP and can cost families more than $150 per month.
DIAPER NEED FACTS
Source: The NDBN Diaper Check 2023: Diaper Insecurity among U.S. Children and Families
Diaper need has increased sharply.
47% (almost half) of families reported diaper need in 2023. In the first diaper need investigation in 2010 and in several subsequent studies, approximately 33% or 1/3 of families reported diaper need.
Diaper need intersects with food insecurity.
More than a quarter of respondents (28%) who reported diaper need said that they skipped meals so that they could afford more diapers.
Diaper need results in parents missing work and losing wages.
1 in 4 (25%) of parents and caregivers with diaper need reported having to miss work or school because they did not have enough diapers to drop their child off at childcare, and reported missing, on average, 5.1 workdays in the past 30 days. This represents a loss of $296 per month for a parent earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
